What temptation do you find yourself struggling to conquer today? Often, this temptation appears over and over again in our lives, for some, creating addiction. In our society, addiction goes far beyond alcohol and drugs. As a culture, many of us are tempted to point of addiction by money, sex, pornography, greed, anxiousness, laziness, technology, envy, and food. Thankfully, God has provided us a way out of these temptations. In 1 Corinthians 10:13 we receive a welcoming promise: "...God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide you a way out so you can stand up under it," (emphasis added). In Psalm 119:11 we learn that we can fight temptation by using God's Word: "With the shield of your Word, I will face temptation, Almighty God." So, what does this mean? We must memorize scripture in order to fight off our temptations. We find out in James 4:7 that when we submit ourselves to God, the devil will flee from us. When you are tempted, if you're able to recite verses from the Bible (either aloud or silently), Satan will leave you alone and you will conquer temptation. This is a promise from God. It doesn't mean you won't be tempted again, but God has provided a way out for us; we only have to choose to use it.
