Since beginning my journey of thanks in 2014, I've learned that the power of praising God in every circumstance, even the messy ones, is unmatched. The instant you offer Him thanks in a moment when you might be thinking anything BUT thanks, your heart changes. "The mess" gives me an opportunity to place my focus back on Him and find joy in His plan, His mercy, His grace, and His unforeseen blessings. Apparently, the Lord thought I needed some practice in my thanks mission, because in the last 12 hours He's offered up seeeeeveral opportunities for me to glorify Him in "the mess."
Messy, like changing vomit splattered sheets (three times).
Thank You, God, for unexpected snuggles with my girl.
Messy, like removing Addie's dinner particles from the washer basin.
Thank you, God, for clean sheets and a washing machine.
Messy, like bathing my snotty nosed, splotchy faced, sour smelling sweet pea at midnight.
Thank you, God, for hot water and bubbles.
Messy, like cleaning throw up from the carpet, and rug, and crib, and bumpers, and clothes.
Thank you, God, for a plush rug for Addie to play on, bumpers that keep her pacifier in the crib, and drawers full of clean clothes.
Messy, like VERY little, often woke, whimper filled sleep.
Thank you, God, for a baby monitor, my mama-sense, that my child has a voice to cry, and a warm bed.
Messy, like the only thing that appeases her is a seat on my lap and her first year video on repeat.
Thank you, God, for the feeling of Addie on my chest, her excitement when the Christmas tree appears on screen, and that I get to marvel at Adeline's life again and again.
Messy, like she's shouting "num-num" (eat) but nothing I offer satisfies her cravings.
Thank you, God, for a full refrigerator.
Messy, like ear-splitting screams and baby gymnastics during a diaper change.
Thank you, God, for diapers and my daughter's healthy body.
Messy, like banana smeared on...well, everything.
Thank you, God, for cleaning supplies and dogs to aid in the process!
Messy, like I can finally rest while she naps, but she just threw up AGAIN...here we go...
Thank you, God, for the love that keeps me going, the adorable sound of "uh-oh" and the peace that finally comes from a sleeping baby.
